If you want to find an overlooked whose song that will blow your doors off your house that song would be "The Relay" one you just spoke about. Rodger just roaring with that incredible voice and those pipes and the group playing so fast, so hard pushing all the limits of greatness is in the song "The Relay". You probably don't get requests for it because it's not on an album but you are losing out on a song that's better than "Join Together" and no less powerful than "Won't Get Fooled Again". That's a tall statement but the song backs itself

If you want to listen to a powerful very fast hard-hitting song that song would be "The Relay". Probably the most powerful song and the fact that they could have such a song and not even put it on an album shows how many great songs they really have but if you don't do it as a reaction then listen to a privately cuz if you like Power and energy "The Relay" is going to bring that to you more than any other Who song. I grew up on The Who and Led Zeppelin and groups like that going to high school in the 70s and I know what I'm talking about when it comes to this group and you don't want to miss out on "The Relay"

... to put this song and it's lyrics in perspective, I once saw this song with a video of Soldiers in Vietnam Carrying Wounded soldiers over their Shoulders to safety, dodging bullets, explosions going off all around them and suddenly... It All Made Sense. This is what we Hippies were all about! Peace. An awesome song to follow this is called "Get Together" by "The Young bloods." Promise...

Definitely one of my favorites from Metallica. My view of the songs meaning is recognizing how we are self destructive and harm ourselves in any number of ways and trying to expel those things. Like a hundred years or so ago doctors would bleed you using leaches to suck out tainted or diseased blood.

Another bit of trivia about this song. When the band couldn’t find a replacement for Peter Gabriel despite auditioning dozens of singers, they had Phil Collins do the vocals for Squonk as a test. They thought he could only sing softer and sweeter songs. His singing on Squonk convinced them he could actually carry the load as the lead singer.

Yep - this was a Slow Dance "Babe Layer". As a child of the fifties, I enjoyed so much of the '80s - we were experiencing a Multimedia Renaissance, for sure. Extra Network with FOX, cable channels, music videos and MTV, plus film and cultural transformations (Vietnam was over, as well as the Oil Embargoes. 'Recreationals' were cheap and plentiful, race relations were better than ever, etc., etc.). At one point some 5,000 artists were moving into LA county every week - and then there was NYC and London as the other centers of the renaissance. Even some old groups from the '60s and '70s made 'comebacks' - recording some of their best stuff in the '80s, which spanned '79 - '90.

It seems to me that while this concert was being filmed, Bob Dylan wanted to spontaneously transition into the second song and signaled The Band. The Band are such great musicians and so professional that they easily adjusted. Lots of great songs and performances in this concert. I would recommend The Bands own song called It Makes No Difference. Great reaction and it's always enjoyable to watch your reactions.

Baby Let Me Follow you Down, is an old blues song that Dylan picked up from Eric Von Schmidt. It was also the first single by the Animals (retitled as "Baby Let Me Take you Home"). Interestingly enough, the Animals next single was also a song from Dylans first album, "House Of The Rising Sun".

I love "Forever Young". I love to play it to and it's been in my setlist when I play out for 50 years now! It also has a personal connection. I stopped playing it for a year in 2005 when my partner of almost twenty years passed away. I couldn't sing it without choking up because I used to sing it to her at home. Actually in that period I also had to take two other Dylan songs out of my setlist, "You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" and "Lay Lady Lay" for the same reason. "Lay Lady Lay" was especially hard because we actually bought a king size brass bed and the first thing I did when we got it home was to pull out my guitar, sit on the bed and sing it to her. "Baby Let Me Follow You Down" is another great one, and that one I've been playing for over 50 years! I actually happened to run through it earlier tonight when I was practicing, though I do the acoustic folk version from his very first album, but I loved this rock version too. Another excellent Dylan concert appearance on film is in "The Concert for Bangladesh". I very much enjoyed your reaction to this one.

They were well on their way... the hiring of Steve Gaines and they were ready to change the music world. Ronnie was sharing vocals and songwriting with Steve soon after hiring him. He was a hell of a guitar player as well. Unfortunately, Ronnie, Steve and Steve's sister Cassie died in the plane crash. They only had like 4 years to get where they were. The film, Last Waltz, was directed by Martin Scorcese.

The Band got their start as the Hawks as in; Ronnie Hawkins and the Hawks. When Bob Dylan went from Acoustic Folk to "electric", the Hawks changed their to The Band and toured and recorded with Dylan for two Albums.

Love this song, the album it's from, Journeyman, is one of his best, every song worth a listen. Those extended solos in concert are all improvisation. When Eric backs away from the mic, closes his eyes, and tips his head back, prepare to be blown away.

They know each other so well. It's seamless, unified, perfecto.

True Legend!

The Last Waltz is one of the greatest concert films ever made, but it’s also bittersweet and symbolically marks the end of an era for many of the performers on that stage. As any fan of the Band will ask, did Robbie really have to end the group? Some could see the whole project as Robbie’s vanity project.

There were riots when Dylan went electric so this is interesting to see in that context.

For someone not generally considered a great vocalist, Dylan really has changed his voice over the years. I think he is underappreciates in that regard.

As my best friend succinctly put it "Tom Waits sings about an America that doesn't exist anymore." But if you're old like me... you remember most of his references. Back in the 70s and prior, every section was a smoking section. And a very large percentage of adults smoked. Not sure if it was over 50%... I'm guessing 30-40% An all night diner? You don't see those much anymore. A greasy spoon hole-in-the-wall open 24/7. Classified ads in... yes... a newspaper. Newspapers were these things that were physically printed DAILY! Cost a quarter. And you could read about yesterdays sports or business or politics or comics. But, gosh darn it... you had to wait until tomorrow to get updated on today's events. The HUMANITY!?!?!
